Putting Beavers to Work for Watershed Resiliency and Restoration Symposium

2023 Working with Beavers Symposium - July 13-14, Nisku, Alberta

On July 13 & 14 the Working with Beavers Collaborative (Miistakis and Cows and Fish) welcomed over 60 beaver practitioners from across Alberta, BC, Montana, and beyond, to discuss coexistence with beavers. The first day kicked-off with a keynote presentation by Dr. Emily Fairfax on beavers and wildfire resilience followed by a stellar list of presentations from local municipalities, local partners, and researchers. The day concluded with an expert panel and a networking reception. On day two we were treated to an informative and scenic field trip to view flood mitigation coexistence tools within Elk Island National Park. Our guides included Parks Canada staff David Bruinsma and Shane Archibald, as well as Dr. Glynnis Hood.
